We Are The Ancestors: Stories from Nashulai

Studio Verde envisions a global network of creatives and change makers united by a shared commitment to biodiversity, cultural heritage, and co-existence. Our vision is a web of interconnected minds, advancing innovation, understanding, and a harmonious balance between humanity and the environment.
In 2023, a group of international and local artists collaborated with the Maasai community at Nashulai Conservancy, where they exchanged stories, traditions, and ecological wisdom. This exhibition is a reflection of that journey—through photography, storytelling, and a seed bound for space, we explore the legacies we leave behind and the wisdom we carry forward.
‘Photovoice: Storytelling & Preservation’ (Jon Cox & Andy Bale)
Large-format black-and-white portraits of Maasai elders, capturing cultural knowledge and identity.
Intergenerational cyanotype workshops documenting medicinal plants and ecological wisdom.
‘Crying Milk’ (Canda)
A reflection on resilience, community, and the metaphor of the ‘crying milk’ tree.
A Covenant to Our Companion Species (Prathima Muniyappa)
How a seed chosen by the Maasai community will become a symbol of resilience beyond Earth.
